The Times Square Alliance is seeking a highly-motivated Policy & Research Analyst interested in the growth and evolution of cities, and urban and public policy, to help us manage, evaluate and advocate for Times Square.

The Times Square Alliance’s Policy, Planning and Research department has planned and executed some of the most prominent placemaking and capital development initiatives in New York City, including the reconstruction of Father Duffy Square and the Broadway pedestrian plazas. The team has also built one of the most comprehensive urban research and data analysis programs and uses research to develop and advocate for innovative urban economic development and management policies that are informed by evidence and challenge accepted norms and practices. The department has also been involved with an array of advocacy efforts that have resulted in innovative pedestrian and traffic improvements, and newer and more appropriate regulation of the public realm.


The
Policy & Reseach Analyst will work closely with the Policy, Planning and Research team on projects relating to urban research, policy tracking, data analysis, and external affairs. This role is both qualitative and quantitative, with a sampling of possible projects listed below.  This is a hybrid role, with a minimum of 3 in-person days required weekly in our New York City office.  The ideal candidate can start as soon as possible, even if only part-time until late May/June. 

The duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Responsible for collecting and analyzing an array of economic and quality of life data using Excel and Tableau.  Manage several databases including CoStar, Compstak, and NYC Open Data.  
  • Preparing and disseminating the above-described data for Board of Director reports & presentations, media requests, broker & developer requests, and other Alliance projects.  Communicate findings with data visualizations using software tools including Adobe Suite.  
  • Identify and track relevant policy at the city and state level. Support advocacy efforts through attending hearings, policy discussions, and some meetings with elected officials. 
  • Design and analyze surveys using Qualtrics software and communicate topline findings.  
  • Generate maps and other visualizations of place specific data in the district using QGIS and Adobe Suite.   
  • Ad hoc support for the PPR team.

Qualifications/Skills:  
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required, specifically Excel and Word 
  • Experience with quantitative research preferred 
  • Experience with database management, specifically Tableau, a plus 
  • Experience with policy tracking a plus   
  • Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Illustrator 
  • Experience with GIS a plus 
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in mastering new technical skills.   
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills 
  • Detail orientation and deadline sensitivity  
  • Excellent verbal & written skills 
  • Ability to work as a team across departments 

Salary range: $50,000 - $55,000 annually
