The Times Square Alliance’s Communications team manages the message for large scale civic events including New Year’s Eve and Solstice in Times Square, major public art projects produced by Times Square Arts, as well as the neighborhood at large. The Communications team manages the official website for Times Square and all official social media handles that promote the district, its businesses, and all major happenings. 

The Times Square Alliance seeks a well-organized individual with exceptional writing, speaking, and digital content-creation abilities to generate original digital content highlighting and celebrating Times Square’s distinctive human, architectural, cultural, and historical assets. 


Reporting to the Digital Content Manager and working closely with the Communications team, the Communications Intern will be responsible for:

  • Producing, shooting, and editing photo and video content of Times Square events, businesses, and attractions, including the world-famous New Year’s Eve celebration;
  • Assisting the Digital Content Manager in planning and posting content on all social media accounts including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok;
  • Organizing the Communications team’s archive of photo and video assets;
  • Researching new trends in the social media and digital content spaces;
  • This position requires a fair amount of time spent “in the field” and “on the ground” in Times Square to capture and create content.


A successful candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • 1 or more year(s) experience working in marketing and social media. Pursuing a degree from an accredited college in marketing, communications, journalism, urban planning, or a closely related field.
  • Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Final Cut Pro, InShot, Cap Cut, editing videos on Instagram Reels and TikTok preferred.
  • Knowledge of Sprout Social and Notion platforms are a plus.
  • A high degree of professionalism and organization; must be a team player who can work independently and collaboratively.
  • Keen interest in and knowledge of social media platforms and other communications tools; passion for storytelling and/or news reporting using digital media.
  • Basic design skills; basic photo and video editing skills; a good eye for visuals is a plus.
  • Strong creativity and critical thinking skills; personal enthusiasm and individual initiative.
  • Proximity to NYC and Times Square is a plus. Some work on nights and weekends may be required to cover events and activities taking place in Times Square. Candidate must be available to work on New Year’s Eve.
  • Knowledge of or connection to Times Square neighborhood.

This is a part-time position. The Communications Intern will work up to 10 hours per week. This is a hybrid in-person and remote position, with a strong preference for a candidate who is able to work in person as often as possible. Salary is $19 an hour.
